SageThumbs Tutorials: Install, Configure and Convert
SageThumbs is a free Windows Explorer shell extension that adds thumbnail previews for image formats Windows does not preview on its own, including PSD, AI, EPS and camera RAW files. These tutorials walk through the whole workflow in order: installing the extension, switching on the formats you need, configuring its options, and using the extra tools it adds to Explorer. If you have not installed anything yet, start with the download and the installer guide for your version of Windows, then work down the list.
Every guide below assumes the current released version, SageThumbs 2.0.0.23, and the one companion program some formats need, AFPL GhostScript 8.54. You can get both from the download page. None of the steps require an account, and the extension itself is open source under the GPL-2.0-or-later license, so you can follow along on any Windows PC you own.

If something stops working after following a tutorial, the troubleshooting hub collects the known failure modes and their fixes, and the FAQ answers the questions readers ask most often.
Before you start
A few minutes of preparation make every tutorial here go more smoothly. Download the installer only from the download page, which links to the official SourceForge project, and check the published SHA-256 hash if you want certainty about the file: the correct value for sagethumbs_2.0.0.23_setup.exe is printed there in full. Keep one Explorer window open to a folder that contains a PSD or another unsupported format, because that folder is your before-and-after test for every step. If your work involves Illustrator or PDF files, install AFPL GhostScript 8.54 as part of the same session rather than as an afterthought; half of all “it does not work” reports turn out to be the missing GhostScript step.
Finally, remember that SageThumbs is a shell extension, not a standalone app: it has no window of its own, and everything it does happens inside Explorer. That is why the tutorials talk so much about Explorer views, the right-click menu and the Control Panel settings page. If a screen in a guide looks slightly different on your PC, it is almost always a Windows 10 versus Windows 11 presentation difference rather than a wrong step, and the platform guides in the guides hub explain those differences where they matter.
