Whether you are troubleshooting a stubborn Explorer problem, moving to a different thumbnail tool, or retiring a machine, a complete uninstall beats a half-finished one. SageThumbs is a shell extension (version 2.0.0.23, GPL v2 or later), so its footprint is registrations inside Explorer, a settings page in Control Panel, handler components on disk, and cache…
Your folders were previewing beautifully on Monday; Windows updated on Tuesday; by Wednesday every PSD is a generic icon again. The timing feels damning, and sometimes an update really does change shell behaviour. More often, an update cycle disturbs the neighbourhood SageThumbs lives in: Explorer restarts with a rebuilt cache, settings drift, registrations are refreshed…
Blurry thumbnails invite a hunt for a sharpness setting that does not exist. Explorer previews are small renderings assembled from several layers: the preview data inside your file, the handler that supplies it (SageThumbs for its 162 GFL formats, version 2.0.0.23, GPL v2 or later), the icon size Explorer requests, and the display scaling Windows…
If you went looking for what is using space on your drive, or followed a troubleshooting trail, you may have met a file named sagethumbs.db3 and wondered whether it belongs to you, to Windows, or to something unwelcome. It belongs to SageThumbs, the free open-source Explorer shell extension (GPL v2 or later, version 2.0.0.23) that…
An error mentioning ExtGfl.dll tells you something specific once you know the cast. SageThumbs renders its 162 formats through the GFL Library by Pierre-E Gougelet, and ExtGfl.dll is the component carrying that rendering capability into the shell extension. When Windows reports that this DLL is not registered, or SageThumbs features fail with messages pointing at…
When Explorer freezes while opening an image folder, or crashes and restarts the desktop, suspicion lands quickly on the thumbnail extension, and sometimes that suspicion is right. But Explorer loads many shell extensions at once, reads files that may themselves be damaged, and leans on a thumbnail cache that can corrupt. SageThumbs (version 2.0.0.23, GPL…
A folder of Photoshop work reduced to identical blue icons is more than an annoyance: it slows every file choice and invites opening the wrong version. Windows does not preview PSD files by itself, so PSD thumbnails depend on a handler such as SageThumbs, the free open-source shell extension (GPL v2 or later, version 2.0.0.23)…
You installed SageThumbs, restarted nothing, opened a folder, and saw the same generic icons as before. That experience is common enough to have a standard cure path, because the failure almost always sits in one of a handful of places: Explorer view settings, a system-wide icons-only option, an Explorer process that never reloaded, a stale…
